honey is a bee i rescued and have been taking care of! my goal is to get him healthy enough so he can fly again and join his bee family back in his hive! i’m sure they miss him a lot! honeybees are also very important to our environment, and, unfortunately, in recent years the population of them has dropped by 70%! if honeybees went extinct, that would be very horrible for everyone. even if you haaaate bees, without them our world would lack honey and pollination. imagine a world without flowers and the crops they help sustain!
if you come across a bee that seems unable to fly, see what you can do to help it!
you don’t have to be afraid because in a state where they seem immobile or injured, they will not sting you.
first you’ll want to bring the bee to a safer place, especially if it’s in the street or on a sidewalk where it’s in danger of getting killed. i suggest using a plant or flower to move it first! then get paper or cardboard, something flat, and relocate the bee to somewhere you can keep it!
the best temporary homes for a dying bee would either be a small tupperware with holes poked in the top for oxygen or a jar with holes in the lid as well!
put a few flowers in the jar so the bee can gather pollen and nectar, and feel generally more at home!
make sure your bee has a place to hide from light at night! so either crumple a small piece of paper and stick it in the container or put enough flowers in there so it can sort of burrow itself to sleep! bees DO sleep! younger ones tend to take about 30 second naps but as they grow older they’ll sleep more regularly, even through the night!
bees also eat! they like sweet things! put honey, candy, or sugar water (which is closest to nectar) in the container!
clean it out and replace the flowers and food as much as you feel the need to!
make sure the bee has a way to move around, whether it be on paper towels, paper, or even your hand and arm! they’re pretty friendly, believe it or not. :)
make sure the bee is also exposed to genuine sunlight at points during the day as well! each day it’s with you, see if it will fly!
good luck! <3
remember, every little bit helps when it comes to saving the environment!
